As an experimental moving image artist whose practice is rooted in analog-digital hybridity, I use video vignettes to study the limitations and possibilities of the media we use to remember. To examine our expectations of images, both moving and still, my method dramatizes nostalgic forms to capture the viewer in between worlds of familiarity and first exposure. These formal decisions draw attention to the meaning we invest in antiquated technology and visual language, as well as its role in our conception of videographic memory. At the heart of my work is an enduring interest in personal archives and the stories they preserve, particularly those of the deceased. Through these artifacts, I explore how memory, absence, and identity are conveyed and reconstructed.
